When I noticed Craig chose Carpenters as his commemorative speech was a little surprised to me, because there were not many young people know “Carpenters “at the age like him, since they were quite an old famous band in 1970s. In the beginning, he introduced how their voice touched him and helped him through the difficult time. He said “Every time when I feel upset, I will listen to Carpenters’ songs. The beautiful voice makes me fee carefree, and get rid of all the worries immediately.” Indeed, Karen Carpenter had the outstanding voice like angel sing from heaven as Craig mentioned and I completely agree with him as well.
According to his speech, he talked about Carpenter’s remarkable achievement in 1970s.They won not only two of Grammies but also one Oscar Award. Furthermore, the second album of “We’ve Only Just Begun” had made an unbelievable record on the billboard and lasted for 17 weeks. At that time the ex-president of America, Richard Milhous Nixon, had praised them as “The most outstanding youth of America at the present day.” However, due to pressure of reputation, Karen Carpenter died of anorexia in her young age.
General speaking, Craig did illustrated Carpenter’s achievement on music and their influence to people with their magic voice. He showed how familiar with this article in front of audiences and calm to mourn for the lost of Karen Carpenter. Moreover, He depended on his draft too much at the end of his speech. Therefore, he lacked of eyes contact with his audiences which was the weak point I would like to suggest to him. Final, I awarded Craig’s progress each time on his presentation and do hope he can continue a good job like this.
